 Fantastic for low vision July 18, 2008

I have been an avid reader since grammer school. A diagnosis of low vision several years ago drastically changed this. Large print books and recorded books are wonderful but I was amazed to find that much of what I enjoyed reading was not available in these formats.
The Kindle is very easy to use, has six different font sizes and I can take it anywhere. The number of reading choices in materaial to download is wonderful. I love it!

I'm very happy with my Kindle. I'm well into my second large novel since I bought it. It goes everywhere with me, and it is SO handy. I have a couple of dozen free books that I've downloaded from various sites that are now on my reading list for the summer. I've purchased a few books and am real happy with the savings in per book cost. I enjoy getting the New York Times in such a timely and organized fashion and also subscribe to Azimovs'.
Last weekend my brother-in-law recommended a book to me, saying 'you have to read this!...' I pulled out my Kindle and downloaded the first chapter. He was amazed.
The Problems:
The big one is that I now have to buy one for my wife too!
I didn't care for the case that came with the kindle, but I never understood that there was a piece of plastic that was supposed to fit into a slot in the kindle and hold it into the case, so mine kept falling out. I purchased one of the 3rd party leather cases for it, and it works quite well.
I didn't have the problems with the big page turn buttons that I thought I would. If I could, I'd make the left next page button bigger and the previous page button smaller. Laying on my side in bed reading, the big accessible buttons are a big plus.
This is one of the few items that I've ever purchased that I have absolutely NO buyers remorse. If you are a reader like me... one who has a book with him or her everywhere; eating, in bed, brushing your teeth, in the park, on the plane, on break, etc. this is really the device for you.

For me the Kindle manages to combine successfully the old with the new. By "old" I mean that the way the screen portrays the words closely resembles ink on a page, thereby giving the impression to the reader that one holds a book. "New" refers to the way the reader can skip back and forth through the pages by simply pressing a button, plus other interesting features. I highly recommend the Kindle.

Love my Kindle. It is easy to carry and light weight. I don't have to run to the bookstore if I need a new book. I can just download it in seconds. The only fault I find is that the page turning system is so easy that you can inadvertantly fastforward several pages in error, then you have to go back and find your spot. I like that I can look up words very easily. It would also be nice if there was a light for night reading in the Kindle.

Bought the Kindle for my husband as a birthday present. He absolutely loves it! The compact size and ease of use are just as advertised. The screen is easy on the eyes and the weight/size make it easy to hold for hours of comfortable reading. No having to flip the book around or strain to see the words on the page printed next to the spine.
